Click on the image for a high resolution view. These are the main types of impact crater identified in studies of the Earth and the Moon. The smallest, a) are simple bowl-shaped craters. As craters become larger, their structures become more complex: b) craters with a central peak, c) peak and ring craters and d) multiple ring craters.
