Weight and Escape Velocity

Weight is the force due to gravity that we experience when standing on a planet, a moon or other solar system body. One's weight depends upon the mass of the solar system body one is standing on. A person who weighs 45 kg on Earth would be heavier on Jupiter, and very much lighter on an asteroid.

Escape velocity is the speed with which an object must be launched to escape the gravity of a solar system body. It depends upon the solar system body's mass. On Earth, escape velocity is large - multi-stage rockets are required to place objects in orbit. On an asteroid objects could be launched into orbit with far less force.
