Galactic Location of the New Discoveries

The images show where the Taurus and Centaurus Stellar Nurseries are in relation to the Sun.

The top image is an artist's impression of how the galaxy would look when seen from high above its spiral disk. The two lower images show the galaxy as seen from Earth in visible and infrared light.

The Taurus nursery is very close - only 420 light years away.

RCW 49 in Centaurus is 13,700 light years away - the most distant stellar nursery yet discovered.
