Types of Stars

Red Giants

A few stars are cooler than the Sun, but much brighter. These are the Red Giants which are formed from sun-sized stars that have burnt most of their hydrogen. Their cores contract. They begin to burn helium. The core temperature rises. Their atmospheres expand to a great size. The outer atmosphere cools to a dull red colour

Around five billion years from now, the Sun will enter its Red Giant phase.
