The Atmosphere Affects Light from Astronomical Objects

The atmosphere distorts and discolours our view of the heavens. Objects near the horizon are most affected.

The image on the left was taken as the Moon was rising while the image on the right was taken when it was high in the sky.

Discussion

The Moon just above the horizon.
