The Sun

The Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) was launched in 1995. It continually monitors the Sun and the Solar Wind at multiple wavelenghts.

It warns us of approaching solar storms due to clouds of charged particles hurled towards Earth by Corona Mass Ejection events.

The movie on the right shows solar activity recorded over three days by the Extreme ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (EIT).
