A Closer Look at the Atmosphere

Voyager and Cassini have obtained close looks at Titan's thick atmosphere.

It consists mostly of nitrogen, as does Earth's, but It also contains a substantial percentage of "smog-like" chemicals such as methane and ethane. Earth's primordial atmosphere was made up of similar compounds.

The surface temperature on Titan is around -180° C. Liquid hydrocarbons could exist there. Liquid methane could rain onto and flow across the surface.
